Vibrant Cities Lab was created by the USDA Forest Service, American Forests and the National Association of Regional Councils to help city managers, policymakers and advocates build thriving urban forestry programs. We provide people with the most current and comprehensive resources for greening cities and building future resilience.

Vibrant Cities Lab includes a wealth of information, such as:

  • Research on urban forestry techniques
  • Detailed toolkits on how to create an urban forestry program and measure progress
  • Case studies about urban forestry efforts in cities big and small nationwide
  • Guides to harness the full potential of trees to slow climate change and improve public health
  • A Cool Corridors Guide that can help shade neighborhoods and cool down city streets
  • Forest Health resources that help urban foresters understand and address the challenges affecting their particular communities, tree species, and urban forests.

The website is designed for trained urban foresters and those who don’t usually see the world through the prism of trees, such as city managers, professionals in other fields and community activists.
