Kristin Weikel coordinates innovative post-fire reforestation and seed collection efforts across boundaries in the Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. She works closely with the Southern California Reforestation Manager to support climate-informed reforestation outcomes through adaptive management strategy and monitoring design. Weikel has over 17 years of experience spearheading complex project logistics and operations for long-term forest health monitoring projects in the Southern Sierra, including overseeing and providing leadership to several backcountry research crews. She also gained vegetation management experience while working for Glacier and Great Smokey Mountain National Parks. Weikel graduated with a bachelor’s in forestry from Virginia Tech and grew up in the Shenandoah Valley in Western Virginia. She enjoys spending as much time outdoors with her two young sons as possible, teaching them to love nature as much as she does.
