Julia Twichell leads cartography, information design, and user experience at American Forests, leveraging design and mapping to advance the organization’s creative vision for tree equity and climate-smart forest restoration. She specializes in geospatial data analysis, map-based interactive design and storytelling, data visualization, and UX design. Twichell has over a decade of experience working on watershed management, green infrastructure, environmental justice, coastal resilience and stakeholder engagement for the National Estuary Program, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and several non-profits. She holds a bachelor’s in biology from Carleton College, a master’s in social sciences from University of Rhode Island, and studied UX design at Rhode Island School of Design.
