James Michaud has lead responsibility for American Forests’ efforts to secure support from foundation and government funders. With more than a decade of nonprofit fundraising experience at Action Against Hunger, International AIDS Vaccine Initiative, and Project C.U.R.E., his work has taken him to numerous countries in sub-Saharan Africa including Kenya, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Africa. He also brings expertise developing extensive branded events as a writer/creative director at experiential marketing agencies.

James holds a B.A. in International Affairs/Western Europe from the University of Colorado at Boulder and an M.A. in Germanic Studies from the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque. He also studied in Nice, France and Berlin, Germany and is fluent in French and German. As a ski journalist, James has written more than 100 articles about destinations in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
