Ian Leahy has been with American Forests since 2014, having led rebuilding the organization’s storied urban forestry program, named Tree Equity, and creating the Urban Forestry Science and Innovation Lab to pioneer the next frontiers of urban forestry. His work has focused on developing a comprehensive program model that addresses every phase of urban forestry, with impactful tools such as Vibrant Cities Lab, Tree Equity Score and various technical action guides to help cities and towns overcome entrenched barriers. Leahy has appeared in the New York Times, Biophilic Cities Journal and numerous other print and radio media. Prior to joining American Forests, Leahy served as the urban and community forestry coordinator for the District of Columbia. He currently lives in Detroit and holds degrees in environmental management from Cornell University and Yale University.
