American Forests’ National Big Tree Program is a conservation movement to locate, appreciate and protect the biggest tree species in the United States. It is a major feat for trees to survive diseases and pests, storms, forest fires and the consequences of living alongside human beings long enough to become the largest of their entire species, and the natural benefits provided by these champions over the course of their often long lifetimes are incredibly valuable. For more than 70 years, the goal of the Big Tree Program has been the same: to preserve and promote the iconic stature of these living monarchs and to educate people about the key role that these remarkable trees and forests play in sustaining a healthy environment.
