American Forests has endeavored to lead the way in fostering healthy, resilient forests in the U.S. To further this core mission, we have set a new goal: 3 billion trees planted by 2030.

But this is not something we can do without your support. Now through Giving Tuesday – December 3rd – we hope to raise $25,000 in support of our Tree Equity initiative.

What is Tree Equity?

Every city resident should have access to clean drinking water and be able to breathe fresh air. Those are just two of the reasons why American Forests is committed to planting trees in cities and ensuring they are cared for over the years. Trees also help reduce utility costs. And trees create jobs.

In this regard, trees are infrastructure, much like sewer lines, fire hydrants and street lights are part of the infrastructure of cities.

Tree infrastructure is less prominent—often 25 percent less—in underserved neighborhoods than wealthy neighborhoods. That means people in underserved neighborhoods don’t benefit from trees. It’s our moral imperative to address this inequity.

Our Solution

Through our Community ReLeaf program, we have been able to bring attention to this issue and work to combat it, but we can always do more. One way you can help is by adding your voice to ours as we demand greater investment from city budgets, as well as federal funding into the private sector to address this issue. You can also help American Forests by helping us achieve our $25,000 Giving Tuesday Goal.

We Ask For Your Support

Between now and Giving Tuesday, a group of generous donors will match every donation made to our cause dollar for dollar. Normally, for every dollar you donate we plant one tree, but right now every dollar donated means two trees planted. That means making a generous $100 gift would result in us planting 200 trees!
