In response to introduction of S. 2836, the America’s Revegetation and Carbon Sequestration Act of 2021 by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Manchin and Ranking Member Barrasso, American Forests President and Chief Executive Officer Jad Daley issued the following statement:

“American Forests appreciates Chairman Manchin and Ranking Member Barrasso’s commitment to address critical issues for our forests, our climate, and our communities. Forests support rural economies, provide equity in our towns and cities, protect drinking water supplies and sequester carbon. America’s Revegetation and Carbon Sequestration Act offers an important opportunity to develop new avenues to sustain and enhance these vital priorities.

“The bill recognizes that trees are our best natural defense against extreme heat. The bill also seeks to address the immensity of our wildfire crisis, and acknowledges that this is pivotal time to kick-start the voluntary carbon market. We look forward to working with the Chairman, the Ranking Member, and their Senate colleagues to ensure this and other legislation builds on bi-partisan efforts, such as the REPLANT Act, and enables the full spectrum of partners ready and willing to collaborate on these vital issues.”
