Trees are ranked by total points based on the following formula: Circumference (inches) + Height (feet) + ¼ Crown Spread (feet). The tree with the most total points is crowned national champion.

Official submissions for the national register require a nomination form and photos of the tree. Please download the form, fill it out, and send it and the photos to Eliza Kretzmann at ekretzmann@americanforests.org.

Thank you for your interest in the American Forests Champion Trees program. Nominations for the 2018 edition are now open through Arbor Day, which is April 27, 2018.
