Trees are ranked by total points based on the following formula: Circumference (inches) + Height (feet) + ¼ Crown Spread (feet). The tree with the most total points is crowned national champion.
Official nominations for the national register require you to submit the tree’s information, including photos of the tree, using the form below. If you’d prefer to send your submission via postal mail, please download the form, fill it out, and send it and the photos to Eliza Kretzmann at email@example.com.
Thank you for your interest in the American Forests Champion Trees program. Nominations for the 2018 edition are now open through Arbor Day, which is April 27, 2018.
