American Forests has initiated a multi phase project in the Central Carolina region to document the values of green infrastructure, build capacity for the community to use the green infrastructure data for growth and development decision making. The project has documented the region's changing landscape with satellite imagery from the years of 1984 and 2003. The findings are documented in the enclosed PDFs by county, municipality and metropolitan planning area.

The next phase of this project will promote the use of high resolution high resolution imagery (satellite or aerial) to create high quality green infrastructure data for detailed decision making in selected communities and regionally significant areas.

Initial project partners are: The Catawba College Center for the Environment, the City of Charlotte, the City of Salisbury, Centralina and Catawba Regional Councils of Government, Mecklenburg County, the Charlotte Tree Advisory Commission and the UNC Charlotte Urban Institute.

Funders include the US Forest Service, the NC Division of Forestry, the Charlotte Public Tree Fund, Bank of America, Centralina and Catawba Regional Councils of Government.
