American Forests invites corporations to calculate their effect on global climate change, and to sponsor tree planting that can offset emissions. Below are a few examples of companies that are offsetting carbon emissions. Earthbound Farm, North America's largest organic produce company, is helping to slow global climate change by planting trees with American Forests. Company management worked with American Forests to estimate their emissions of greenhouse gases from business operations and planted trees in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 to offset those unavoidable emissions. In 2001, Earthbound Farm helped plant 70,000 trees, and will help plant another 70,000 in 2002. The trees will remove carbon dioxide and other pollutants from the atmosphere while providing important local environmental benefits, such as increased wildlife habitat, clean air, and clean water.
