Historic Trees FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you sell Historic Trees?
Unfortunately, Historic Trees are no longer available for individual sale. If you have purchased a Historic Tree during the last year and need a replacement, you have questions about your tree, or you’d like to redeem a gift certificate, please contact historictrees@amfor.org.
Does my tree come with a warranty?
Every tree purchased comes with a one-year replacement guarantee. We take pride in our trees, and promise to ship only the healthiest and freshest specimens available. Since we are dealing with live plants, we understand that, even with the hardiest trees, some problems may arise. A $10 shipping charge will apply to all replacement orders. We will not replace trees that perished due to improper care. If your tree needs to be replaced and we do not have it in stock, you will be asked to select a different species.
I ordered a tree but it has not arrived.
If you ordered a tree and have not received it, please email your order number to historictrees@amfor.org. Your order number can be found on your order confirmation email.
My tree is scheduled to ship this fall. When will it arrive?
We want to ensure that your tree has a long and healthy life. We will ship your tree to coincide with your area’s ideal planting time. A shipping confirmation letter will be sent to you when your tree is shipped. Please note that weather conditions may affect shipping times. To check the status of your order, please contact historictrees@amfor.org
My tree didn’t come with a certificate of authenticity. How can I obtain a replacement?
If you did not receive your certificate of authenticity, or would like a replacement, please email the tree name to historictrees@amfor.org.
I have a question about caring for my tree.
For all questions regarding care and maintenance of your trees, please contact American Forests’ Tree Doctor at treedoc@amfor.org. Planting instructions can be downloaded by clicking here.
I purchased a Johnny Appleseed apple tree. Do I need a pollinator?
Yes, in order for your Johnny Appleseed apple tree to produce fruit, you will need a pollinator. Any apple tree variety can be used as a pollinator. Please contact your local nursery to plant the best tree for your area. Johnny Appleseed apple trees are the winter Rambo variety.
When do I take the tree shelter off?
Tree shelters can be removed once the tree begins growing over the top of the tree tube.
How do I nominate a tree to the Historic Tree Register?
We are currently not accepting new nominations for the Historic Tree Register. We always welcome suggestions for new trees. If you would like to suggest a tree, please contact historictrees@amfor.org.
