The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources planted 5,400 oaks, pine and spruce trees on six acres of land in the Rubicon Township in 2000. The six acres planted were the only acres in a 55 acre parcel of land that were not forested and the surrounding landscape was fragmented with less than 10% of forestland. This project will expand the forested acreage of this property and will be an example of sound forestry and wildlife management for private landowners. This property is also used heavily for hunting, hiking and bird watching. This project involved the Wisconsin DNR Departments of Forestry and Wildlife Management and the Watertown 4-H.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
