Year Planted: 2000 Trees Planted: 6,000 Location: Utah
Natural regeneration of ponderosa pine stands in the Fishlake National Forest is spotty after a 1996 wildfire. This project reinforced the pine ecosystem while providing opportunity for natural resource awareness and education with teachers and children. 6,000 ponderosa pine trees were planted in Salina Canyon and at Hens Peak on the Thousand Lake Mountain by the Forest Service with the help of teachers and students from Salina and Loa Elementary schools and Alternative Youth Adventures. These trees will provide clean air and water, habitat for wildlife and recreational opportunities. Additional funding was provided by the National Arbor Day Foundation and Plant-a-Tree.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
