Kraft Springs Fire Rehabilitation III

Year Planted: 2010
Trees Planted: 485,000
Location: Montana

The Brewer Fire occurred in the Sioux Ranger District of the Custer National Forest in 1988, affecting 58,000 acres of land. In 2002 the Kraft Springs Fire burned through the same area, affecting over 65,500 acres of land. This project will plant 485,000 Ponderosa pines across 900 acres starting around April 15th, 2010. These planting sites will be scattered over elevated plateaus that are dominated by the Ponderosa pine. The goal of these tree plantings is to recover large amounts of forest habitat for the local ecosystem.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
