In 2000 the Blodgett Canyon Fire scorched 11,000 acres of federal, state, and private land. This planting in 2002 took place on state land, which are state trust lands that provide money for public schools and public building state trust grants. The reforestation efforts were focused on the areas that were the most severely burned. Over 12,000 ponderosa pine were planted with the help of American Forests, the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation and the Bitterroot Interagency Recovery team.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
