In 2000 local chapters of the National Wild Turkey Federation planted 12,000 trees through Operation SOS (Set Out Seedlings). The goal of this program is to plant winter food sources for wild turkeys and other wildlife. Trees were planted in Minnesota, including Northern red oak, white spruce, Northern hackberry, red-osier dogwood, black cherry and green ash. Additional support for this project was provided by Cinergy.
