Idaho Panhandle National Forest will partner with American Forests to plant 20,000 blister rust-resistant western white pine and western larch in a prescribed burn area. The nature of the site, its slope and competitive brush species make it a difficult area to plant, but the goal is to restore these species, which once comprised 41 percent of the forest and now occupy only 7 percent.
