Huntington Recreation Area Tree Planting

Year Planted: 2010
Trees Planted: 46,500
Location: California

In the Bass Lake Ranger District, a combination of factors - including fires, past harvesting, clear cutting, and plantation failures - has led to under-stocked plantations. This project intends to restore conifers to appropriate levels in many of these areas. The plantings will occur in the Sierra Summit Ski Area, found in the Huntington Recreation Area. The ski area serves tens of thousands of skiers and snow players each year. The plantings will take place over 215 acres where disease and insect mortality has eliminated tree vegetation. A total of 41,000 trees will be planted in this area.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
