For 93 years, Scouting has enabled youth to experience the outdoors, challenge themselves, and expand their horizons. The Los Angeles Area Council currently serves over 50,000 boys and girls in Los Angeles and the surrounding communities. Each year the Los Angeles Area Council encourages each Scout to attend summer camp at the Forest Lawn Scout Reservation near Lake Arrowhead. As summer camp Scouts go canoeing, horseback riding, hiking, and other activities.
But all that is changed due to the devastating wildfires from October 2003 in the Arrowhead/Cedar Glen area. More than 2000 acres were burned causing 3.6 million dollars in damage. With the help of American Forests and the California Department of Forestry reforestation efforts planted 34,080 seedlings at the fire site to aid in the area's recovery in 2005.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
