Choccolocco State Forest/Wildlife Management Area (Phase I)

Year Planted: 1994
Trees Planted: 38,300
Location: Alabama

Choccolocco, located in Calhoun County, NE Alabama, doubles as a State Forest and Wildlife Management Area. Forest related activities are managed by the Alabama Forestry Commission while the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources provides wildlife management expertise. All activities seek to complement multiple forest values, including aesthetics and recreation. A severe snowstorm in late winter 1993 damaged a multi-purpose unit totaling approximately 118 acres. 38,300 longleaf and shortleaf pine, sawtooth oak, autumn-olive and crabapple mix were planted to start the restoration process.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
