Name of Project: Nashua Snow Storm Tree Restoration
Location: Nashua, NH
Number of Trees: 100-200
On October 28, 2011, Nashua, N.H., was hit by a devastating snowstorm that killed hundreds of city street trees. With help from citizens, the city was able to clear most of the debris from yards and streets, but could not save many of the fallen trees. American Forests and the city of Nashua will plant 100-200 red maple, green ash, thornless honeylocust and crabapple trees along city streets and in parks to offset the trees that were lost to the snowstorm. This project will also give residents the opportunity to purchase trees for planting within 25 feet of city streets. This planting will increase awareness of the benefits of urban trees and reestablish the tree canopy of Nashua.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
