Name of Project: Sugar Pine Restoration in Tahoe State Parks
Location: Lake Tahoe, CA & NV
Number of Trees Planted: 10,000
American Forests is partnering with the Sugar Pine Foundation to restore sugar pine in California and Nevada state parks near Lake Tahoe. Students, members of the community and professional crews will be involved in the planting of 10,000 sugar pines. Project goals include diversifying tree species and age classes, establishing sugar pines that can survive white pine blister rust, improving wildlife habitat and watershed health, involving the local community in forest stewardship and enhancing scenic beauty in popular recreation areas. This project will also educate and involve more than 200 community members in stewardship of forest resources for the health of the local environment and the tourist-based economy over the long term.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
