Name of Project: Urban Forestry Project in Kathmandu
Number of Trees to be Planted: 1,000
Directly Benefits: Residents of Kathmandu
American Forests is partnering with We Are The One Nepal (WATO Nepal), a Nepali community- based organization, to plant trees in an area under-going rapid urbanization. This process has resulted in a loss of green spaces, in part due to the population’s lack of consciousness regarding environmental issues. Through this project, WATO strives to raise the public’s awareness about environmental concerns by getting them involved in project activities and dispersing information through their website, newspapers, and flyers.
Three types of trees will be planted in this project: Jacaranda (Jacaranda spp.), Camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora), and Golmore (Delonix regia).
These trees are known to be good air purifiers, effective sound buffers, and their strong roots give them the best chances of survival, while enhancing the aesthetic value of the surrounding areas.
