American Forests is partnering with the Proyecto Selva de Pino Paraná in order to restore parts of the subtropical Atlantic Forest. This ecosystem is home to endangered birds such as the Vinaceous Parrot (Amazona vinacea), Azure Jay (Cyanocorax caeruleus), and White-bearded Antshrike (Biatas nigropectus), as well as the Parana Pine (Araucaria angustifolia) tree species. In 2009, a severe tornado devastated the area and nearly all of the large, old trees fell, leaving bare soil with no vegetation. In 2010 American Forests began supporting this project, and planted 533 native trees with the support of 29 farming families and the students from the primary school.
