This project is a continuation from 2009 of the effort to reforest 2,600 acres of land that was harvested for wood in the mid-1990s. The objective for this project is to re-establish a Sitka Spruce forest over a seven-year period. Past years of the project experienced setbacks because of the snowshoe hare. From this point on, all seedlings will be planted with protective netting to reduce the damage done by the hares. About 75,000 trees will be planted in 2010.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
