Year Planted: 2010 Trees Planted: 500 Location: Costa Rica
Ecology Project International in Costa Rica is designed to educate and promote conservation through a partnership between local students and scientists. The program is focused on protecting the endangered leatherback sea turtles, while helping to advance the lives of the participating students. During the program, EPI will have the students plant 500 native seedlings on abandoned pasture land, and go on to monitor the trees and collect data regarding their growth rate. The aim of the project is to have students bring their understanding of the need for protecting forests and their benefits back into their communities.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
