Trees for the Future

Year Planted: 2007
Trees Planted: 3,300
Location: Louisiana

Between 2006 and 2007 Shreveport Green grew 3,300 trees and transported them to the Jefferson Parish, one of the regions that was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. These trees, including oaks, birch, elm, maple and magnolia will be used for future planting in areas affected by the hurricane. After purchasing the trees as seedlings, Shreveport Green grew the trees in their Growing Out Station, where the trees received maintenance and proper pruning. Individuals, businesses, government entities and community and civic groups in Jefferson Parish will plant and care for the trees in the future. The project also allowed the Shreveport Green volunteers of the Caddo Parish to participate in the re-greening of the Jefferson Parish.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
