Cape Chiniak Reforestation

Year Planted: 2007
Trees Planted: 50,000
Location: Alaska

The Cape Chiniak Reforestation Effort is a 2,600 acre project to restore timber lands that were harvested in the mid-90s. The land is Alaska Native Corporation timber lands and has had practically no natural regeneration. 50,000 sitka spruce seedlings were planted in 2007. This is a five year project with 500 acres being planted every year. An NRCS EQIP contract will help to fund the project along with American Forests' contribution.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
