This two year project with Tree New Mexico provided 8,000 trees for restoration after the Cerro Grande Fire in 2000. This project was a combination of workshops, distribution of trees to residents and tree planting. In 2001 trees were given to two pueblos for planting at burn sites and trees were given to residents of Los Alamos. Many residents obtained trees to replace those around their homes that had been burned in the fire. Residents received training concerning the proper planting and care of trees. In 2002 the workshops continued, providing trees and training for additional residents, students and an elementary school.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
