Reforestation of Erzgebirge

Year Planted: 2001
Trees Planted: 120,000
Location: Germany

ExxonMobil, PrimaKlima and American Forests joined forces to begin a planting of 120,000 trees outside of the regional capitol of Dresden. Community members, youth groups, and local environmental organizations were all on hand to reforest the 40 ha of farmland. The goal is to create more native forests, increase water quality and help slow climate change. In addition, the forest will provide an escape for city dwellers and place for tourists to experience the German countryside. Sponsors predict that the trees planted in this project will offset the annual emissions of over twenty German households.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
