The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is working with Global ReLeaf, the National Resource Conservation Service, and Ducks Unlimited to restore the historical hydrology regime to a bottomland area in the Alazan Bayou Wildlife Management Area, south of Nacadoches, Texas. This area was drained in the 1930s and used for various forms of agriculture prior to its purchase by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 1991. In the second year of a two year project, 64,000 bottomland hardwoods were planted on abandoned pasture and interspersed with small depressional emergent marshes. This project will create wildlife habitat.
