In 1998 an ice storm devastated urban and rural forests, local and provincial parklands, green corridors and trail ways in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick. As a result, Operation ReLeaf was established by the Tree Canada Foundation to support the reforestation of these damaged areas. Specifically in eastern Ontario, 35 municipalities participated in the planting of 100,500 trees. Eddie Bauer was a sponsor and the project was also supported by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Eastern Ontario Model Forest, Conservation Ontario and the G. Howard Ferguson Forest Station.
