Urban Greening

Year Planted: 1994
Trees Planted: 1,000
Location: South Africa

Trees for Africa is one of the oldest environmental groups in South Africa with a goal of building capacity through tree planting. As they put it A house is not a home without a tree. Unlike other forms of conservation more widely supported by the Western world such as wildlife conservation, planting trees in African provides a direct benefit to Africans by giving them cleaner air and water and aesthetic beauty the can appreciate on a daily basis. TFA works on the grassroots level, building capacity while building a cleaner future. Tree planting, both urban and rural, is part of a sustainable development plan for South Africa. They partnered with American Forests to plant 1000 trees in urban South Africa.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
