Global Releaf Search

Balrath Wood

Year Planted: 1994
Trees Planted: 37,500
Location: Ireland

The Tree Council of Ireland, in conjunction with Global ReLeaf international, wants to develop a forested, outdoor classroom in Balrath. The goal is to increase awareness about trees, woodland and woodland management promoting the return of healthy broadleaf forests to Ireland. Part of this project focuses on removal of exotic species returning the ecosystem to its native, broadleaf state. The classroom will to be open to the community with education programs being conduced for school groups and community members alike. The site is only 25 miles from Dublin, so the potential for visitors is huge. The forest will be maintained by the National Training and Employment Authority.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
