This project aims to improve the ecological status of small rivers as an important source of water, to improve the environmental situation in cities, to decrease CO2 content in the air, and to involve the wide community, especially children, in ecological activity through tree planting. Plantings were conducted by the National EcoCentre of Ukraine, particularly its Kryvyi Rih and Cherkasy branches, in cooperation with the organization Green World and volunteer schoolboys and schoolgirls. Targeted sites included the riversides of the Trubizh and Irpin near Kyiv (as well as the city itself), the riversides of Pivdennyi Buh in the Vinnytsia region, the towns of Horlivka, Dnipropetrovsk and Kaniv, and the riversides of the Ingulets and Sacsagan in Kryvyi Rih town. Plantings were largely in continuation of the efforts made the previous fall, but an unusually cold month of November stopped the project short.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
