Anacostia River Park

Year Planted: 1991
Trees Planted: 767
Location: Maryland

In 1991, 767 trees were planted in Anacostia River Park on land owned by Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning. The trees were planted within 1,000 feet of tidal waters to reinforce the existing woodland, enhance the wildlife habitat, and help prevent run-off to the Anacostia Watershed. This project was additionally a community outreach program to promote the value of trees and to inspire volunteers to plant more trees around their own homes. Assistance in this tree planting came from many organizations, including Prince George's Departments of Environmental Resources and Public Works, Maryland Forest Park and Wildlife Services, Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning, Maryland Public Television 'Green Team', and Tree-mendous Maryland.
