The Iowa DNR and American Forests joined together to plant 24,000 hardwoods just east of Des Moines, Iowa. The planting took place on thirty acres of a 444 acre farm donated to the state in 1986, with the provision that a hardwood forest had to be established in ten years. The site is located within view of highway 80 and will help showcase forestry planting. Additionally there is little forest cover in the area, therefore, these trees will provide wildlife benefits and aestetics to an otherwise barren area.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
