Choccolocco State Forest/Wildlife Management Area (Phase II)

Year Planted: 1995
Trees Planted: 58,000
Location: Alabama

Choccolocco, located in Calhoun County, NE Alabama, doubles as a State Forest and Wildlife Management Area. Forest related activities are managed by the Alabama Forestry Commission while the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources provides wildlife management expertise. All activities seek to complement multiple forest values, including aesthetics and recreation. A severe snowstorm in late winter 1993 damaged a multi-purpose unit totaling approximately 118 acres. The planting of 58,000 longleaf pine in the spring of 1995 completed the restoration efforts that began the preceding year.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
