Two Rocks Run Fire Area, Sproul State Forest #2

Year Planted: 1995
Trees Planted: 1,980
Location: Pennsylvania

In April 1990, a severe fire burned approximately 10,000 acres in Pennsylvania. The Sproul State Forest, part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, was affected by the burn. In 1995 volunteers from Penn ReLeaf, Penn State University, Lock Haven State Univerity and forestry district staff planted 1,980 trees on 20 acres. Improved seedling stock was introduced to provide a seed source for the area and tree shelters were installed for protection from deer. Benefits of this project include the reforestation of fire area, production of high quality timber products and habitat for wildlife. Partners in this project include the Pennsylvania Forestry Association, Bureau of Forestry and the Hardwood Plywood and Veneer Association.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
