9,200 trees were planted on the Bayfield Peninsula in 1999. This planting will restore white pine as a seed source on a 115 acre area of the Lake Superior watershed. Seedlings were planted under standing red oak and red maple nurse trees, which will help restore a natural forest type that was decimated by early over-cutting. Partners include the Hayward State Nursery, Wisconsin Conservation Corp and Bayfield County Forestry.
