Over a three year period from 1998-2000, 24,800 seedlings were planted on 32 acres in New Jersey. A variety of native pines and hardwoods were planted by the New Jersey Forest Service and many volunteers as part of the Green 'n New Jersey planting program. The sites that were planted included the New Jersey Pinelands in Ocean County and the Greenwood Track Wildlife Management area, which were both burned in a 1995 wildfire. Major benefits for the project include public connection, volunteer opportunity, environmental education and outdoor classroom experience. Volunteers included families, scout groups, inmates from a local State Correction facility, 4-H groups and environmental organizations.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
