Sabine National Forest- Yellowpine Ranger District

Year Planted: 1995
Trees Planted: 182,721
Location: Texas

In Sabine National Forest near the Indian Mounds Wilderness Area in eastern Texas, the Yellowpine Ranger District planted 182,721 trees on 230 acres decimated by the Southern Pine Beetle. As the Southern Pine Beetle had been killing almost all the pines stocking those stands, the trees had to be removed to suppress the infestation. This site was regenerated with native shortleaf pine and various naturally sprouting hardwood species.
