Yuri Starosolsky Memorial Grove

Year Planted: 1994
Trees Planted: 3,000
Location: Ukraine

Dr. Yuri Starosolsky was a leader of the Ukrainian youth organization Plast, which originated in western Ukraine and spread throughout the West, in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Australia and Argentina. Upon his passing, Global ReLeaf joined with Plast and the National EcoCentre of Ukraine to plant a memorial grove at Gargany on the slopes of the Carpathian Mountains, an area where Dr. Starosolsky and his Scouts used to camp and hike. Plast solicited one dollar per each of its members throughout Ukraine, which became one dollar per seedling. The planting took place successfully in the spring of 1994.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
