The project aims to improve the ecological status of small rivers and the environmental situation in cities, to decrease the amount of CO2 contained in the air, and to involve the wider community, especially children, in ecological activities through tree planting. The National EcoCentre of Ukraine cooperated with its Kryvyi Rig Branch, the organization Green World, and local volunteers (schoolboys and schoolgirls) in carrying out the planting. In the Kyiv region, targeted areas were the riversides of the Trubizh, Rogach, and Smolianka, and the city park. Other sites were the riversides of the Desenka in the Vinnytsia region, the riversides of the Oster in the Chernigiv region, and the riversides of the Ingulets in the Dnipropetrovsk region (area known as 'badlands'). Plantings extended from the fall through the spring.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
