The Center for Experimentation and Training in Appropriate Technology (TEKHNE) planted 200 trees in Santiago, Chile in 1998. 8 different tree species were planted in the municipality of Conchali, which is located to the north of Santiago. Conchali is a low income area of the city that desperately needed reforestation. TEKHNE worked with many organizations in Conchali, including the community center, territorial community associations, ecological groups and with parents from different schools. Tree planting in this area will strengthen TEKHNE's work in the communal area, encourage appreciation for Chilean native species and provide cleaner air for the community and for Santiago. Briggs and Stratton sponsored the project.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
