During this first year of a three-year project, the Florida Nature Conservancy planted 25,000 longleaf pine on 90 acres in order to convert off-site slash pine areas on the Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve, located on Florida's Panhandle, back to a native longleaf pine/wire grass ecosystem. The Preserve harbors more than 15 threatened and endangered plant and animal species, some found nowhere else.
