Riley Point Restoration Project

Year Planted: 2006
Trees Planted: 42,450
Location: Wyoming

The Riley Point wildfire started in August of 2003 and burnt almost 800 acres of mixed species forest on the Bighorn National Forest. The planting of 35,000 Lodgepole Pine and Engelmann Spruce will help protect wildlife habitat and restore areas surrounding known prehistoric sites in adjacent meadows. Reforestation supported by American Forests will also affect areas overlooking the burn that have been continuously used in traditional Native American vision quests since prehistoric times.
