In this project riparian corridors and wetland habitats were restored on private landowner's property in the upper watersheds of the Potomac, Patuxent and Patapsco Rivers systems, Maryland's three major rivers on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Seedlings were provided free to the landowners. This project includes 386 acres of forest and wetland habitats along riparian corridors to benefit fish and wildlife populations using the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. This project will also increase water quality by reducing the amount of sediment, nutrients, and other pollutants entering tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. To make this project possible American Forests partnered with the EPA Chesapeake Bay Program, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Maryland Department of Forestry and private landowners.
This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
