Notable Highlights
American Forests is teaming up with the USDA Forest Service to reforest areas within the Kootenai National Forest. The area has been damaged by a variety of insects, including western spruce budworm, Douglas-fir Beetle, and mountain pine beetle.
The project will plant a variety of species, including ponderosa pine, western larch, and western white pine, to increase forest health. Some of the tree species are more resistant to attack, while others grow faster, making the forest less susceptible to insect damage, and allowing the watershed to recover in less time. The reforestation efforts will also provide habitat for wildlife.
